
Jorgeandrés Camargo | Bass
Biography
Jorgeandrés Camargo, Bass, began his interest in performing nearly a decade ago while growing up in Houston, Texas. He attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Art and graduated with a major in Vocal Music. Soon after, he moved to upstate New York where he received a BM from the Eastman School of Music. He studied with Jan Opalach and worked with Benton Hess while performing Geronimo in Cimarosa’s Il matrimonio segreto, and Kecal in The Bartered Bride.
Mr. Camargo then pursued his MM from Boston University, studying with Jerrold Pope and working with the Opera Institute, where he recently received a Performance Certificate. Roles with Boston University include Prophet/King in Nico Muhly’s Dark Sisters, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Balthazar in Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors, Capitán in Daniel Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas, Gus O’Neill in Musto’s Later the Same Evening, Roy Cohn in Peter Eotvos’ Angels in America, Pandolfe in Massenet’s Cendrillon, Don Alfonso in Cosi fan tutte, and Quince in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
While studying for his degrees Mr. Camargo also performed with various summer festivals, including Si parla si canta, CoOperative, Le Chiavi del Bel Canto with the Texas Music Festival, Opera Breve where he was Bartolo and Antonio in Le nozze di Figaro and Betto in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Ojai Music Festival where he covered Beethoven in Steven Stucky’s new work The Classical Style: An Opera (of sorts), and Crested Butte Music Festival where he covered Sparafucile in Verdi’s Rigoletto as a Marcello Giordani Young Artist in 2014. Over the years Mr. Camargo has participated in Master Classes with Phyllis Curtin, David Gately, Ben Heppner, and Cori Ellison. He has also performed various bass solo roles including the “Verdi Requiem” with MIT, “Mozart Requiem” with FUSN, and Mozart’s “C Minor Mass” with Nashua Valley Choral.
Mr. Camargo is currently based in Boston where he lives with his Siberian Husky, Lyra.
